Secure Rio Vista
-
License Plate Readers
Installing License Plate Readers at every entrance and exit of Rio Vista would provide Fort Lauderdale Police an enhanced ability to track criminals and stolen cars, increasing the chances of stopping criminals and recovering stolen property by integrating with FLPD’s camera database.
-
Unmanned Gates
Unmanned gates will add an extra layer of security, deterring criminals from entering the community. The gates will also ensure the License Plate Readers are able to accurately track the vehicles entering and exiting our neighborhood.
-
Human Security
We want to enhance our human security posture. Prices for off duty police are increasing every year, and more coverage is sorely needed. We want to increase coverage while managing costs. Any leftover funds will go towards more human security.
Safety & Security
The goal of the Secure Rio Vista campaign is to improve the safety and security of Rio Vista.
Everyone knows someone who have had their cars stolen or have had their house burglarized. The crime in Rio Vista is a stain on our community.
Enough is enough.
Its time to install license plate readers and unmanned gates at every entrance and exit of the community. There are 11 entrances and exits to cover.
By installing security infrastructure we can prevent crime in Rio Vista, deter criminals, and provide Fort Lauderdale Police more data and tools to protect our community.
We Need Your Help
The Rio Vista Civic Association cannot afford to fund this initiative on its own.
We are asking the community to privately fund this initiative the following estimated costs:
License Plate Readers: $200,000
Unmanned gates: $250,000
Enhanced Human Security: Variable
We are setting a fundraising goal of $500,000 to invest in the security infrastructure of the community.
The plan is simple:
Install License Plate Readers (cost: $200,000)
Perform Traffic Study (cost: $40,000)
File for Permit Applications (cost: $10,000)
Install Unmanned Gates (cost: $200,000)
Enhance human security (cost: ad-hoc)
The first tranche of $200,000 would go towards installing License Plate Readers, which require no city approval.
The next tranche of funds going towards the required traffic study and permit applications, with the final tranche funding the permitting and installation of unmanned gates.
Any leftover funds would go towards more human security through the Protect Rio Vista Program.
All funds will be provided directly to the Rio Vista Civic Association for disbursement and management. Once we recieve enough pledge to fill a tranche, we will send out invoices for payment.
